Egyptian conflicts with Kadesh are first mentioned in the Twelfth dynasty of Egypt using the term Qdem in reference to people coming south from upper Retenu or the watershed of the Orontes river. Most of the fighting was in the mountains or hills of the region called Naharin meaning the rivers defining the borders of Syria, Lebanon, Aram, and Canaan.
